General Barrel Racing Rules: Accepted NBHA barrel racing practices will govern. A “no time” will be given to the contestant if they break the clover-leaf pattern or knock over a barrel. A run with penalties will be treated as a “no time.” Contestants should be ready to compete when their name is called. If a contestant is not present when their name is called, they will receive two additional gate calls and will then receive a “no time.” If a contestant is present, but fails to start the clock within 60 seconds of their first gate call, they will receive a “no time.” Electronic timers shall be used. In the event of a timer failure; the contestant will be given a re- run at the end of the draw. *Announced times are UNNOFICIAL until Judges Sheets are posted!*

Inhumane, cruel or abusive treatment of a horse at this event will not be tolerated. This will include, but is not limited to, excessive use of a bat, crop, whip, or rope in front of the cinch, use of an electric prod, or use of unacceptable drugs. Any attempt to fix or throw a barrel race will not be tolerated. Any harassment or argumentative- ness with a show official may be warrant for disqualification. Any misconduct, including but not limited to those items listed above, shall be brought to the attention of the Routt County Fair Advisory Board for consideration and appropriate action. Appropriate action may include removal from the Routt County fairgrounds, fines, loss of awards/money or expulsion.

Youth Rodeo Style-Fastest time wins: Age 8-18 as of January 1. Entry fee $30 per horse with a one-time office fee of $10.

Pee Wee Class: Age 7 and under as of January 1. Entry fee $5 per kid. Money or awards will be given in each division. Prizes will be awarded.

Rules/Requirements: Protective helmets and vests provided. Mouthpieces are recommended and must be provided by contestants. Participants can bring their own equipment and are encouraged to do so. Riders cannot touch the animal with their free arm or they are DQed, no wraps, gloves may be worn to help hold on the braided bucking rope strap, no sharp rowls on spurs and rowls must have turn movement. Time starts when rider nods and the shoulder of animal breaks plane of gate. There is no mark out rule. Riders may only ride with one hand. Buckle awarded to the winner.

These exciting minis bridge the gap between the mutton busters and the big time rodeo cowboys, planting the seeds for tomorrow’s champions.

Riding and safety equipment are provided but if you have your own equipment, please bring it. Spur rowls must spin freely. Riders hold the bareback riggin’ with one hand for 6 seconds and cannot touch with their free hand. Mark out and spur rules do not apply, however extra points will be awarded when earned.

All mini-bronc busters must be between 5 and 17 years old and 55-150 pounds. Space is limited to the first riders that sign up and pay the $20 entry fee. Welcome to the world of Mutton Bustin’, also known as wool riding. This event is a version of Bronc Riding, transformed into a children’s rodeo event when kids try to ride a sheep for up to 6 seconds. Mutton Bustin’ is open to kids between the ages of 3-8 years old who are 70 pounds or less. Space is limited to the first riders that sign up and pay the $10 entry fee. Your Child may only ride one day or the other. THEY MAY NOT RIDE BOTH DAYS. Your spot is not reserved until a parent or legal guardian signs the waiver and pays the entry fee. Participants must sign up online or in person at the Fair Office during the week of fair.

Participants and at least one parent must show up at the west end of the grandstands on the track no later than 10:45am. Gear, including a protective vest and a helmet with face guard, are provided.

Limited to 10 per age group: 5-7yrs, 8-10yrs and 11-12 yrs, 13-17 yrs, Women 18+ & Men 18+

This is a family affair for children, filled with laughter for everyone. Little ones scramble around chasing small, quick animals. Parents must sign a liability release and consent form. Please note that IF YOU CATCH A PIG YOU TAKE IT HOME so please be prepared to care for your animal properly. THERE IS NO SELLING OF PIGS! If you are not able to properly care for a young pig, you cannot enter the contest. If you sell your pig or enter the contest knowing you cannot care for one properly, you will be banned from all future Fair participation.
