Special Recognition, Awards and Opportunities for Lamb
Lamb Producers Contest:
For 4-H and FFA members showing Routt County Raised lambs at the Routt County Fair (Routt County Raised is defined as born and raised in Routt County) This is a producer or ranch award. Youth, with permission from the local producer, may enter their lamb in the producer competition. The competition will be 1/3 live animal placing in respective market class, 1/3 rate of gain, and 1/3 carcass data. Rate of gain will be determined by May and Fair weights, and carcasses will be evaluated using guidelines from the America Meat Science Association. This award will be presented at the Routt County 4-H Achievement Night.

Lamb Production Contest: This contest is open to Routt County 4-H and FFA members involved in the market lamb project for the current year. The scores are compiled from the animal’s live placing at fair, record book score, rate of gain and carcass score. Awards premiums to the top three finishers, which are announced at the Routt County 4-H Achievement Night.

The Howard & Maxine Elliott Memorial Sheep Breeding Project Fund offers premiums to encourage youth participation in the Sheep Breeding project. This fund is used to reward outstanding ewes, rams and flocks exhibited at the Routt County Fair by 4-H and FFA members. The premiums are awarded at the Routt County 4-H Achievement Night.

The Brenner family Breeding Sheep Award offers premium money in the amount of $500 to 4-H/FFA members who participate in Routt County Fair sheep breeding class Brenner Family Class - Ewe-Market Lamb (shown at the current year county fair). Youth will be awarded based upon their placings in the Brenner Family Class - Ewe-Market Lamb, exhibitor interview, record book score and showmanship. Ewe must be bred, wintered and cared for in Routt County by the 4-H member to be eligible for this award. The premiums will be awarded at the Routt County 4-H Achievement Night in November.

Routt County Raised Lamb Carcass Contest – sponsored by the Routt County Wool Growers. This award is offered to the top ten Routt County Raised (born and raised in Routt County) lamb Carcasses.
