Youth & Open Barrel Race

Open 4-D Barrel Race: The entry fee for the Open 4-D Barrel Race is $35. There is a one-time $5 office charge. NO EXHIBITIONS. Pre-entries are required to be turned in to the Fair Office (inside the Exhibit Hall at the Fairground) by Friday, August 19th by 6pm. Late entries will be taken on Saturday August 20th morning but will be given a late charge fee of $10 per entry and will be taken only up to 9am.

The Open 4-D class consists of four (4) divisions:
The 1D will be set by the fastest time of the barrel race with 2D, 3D being ½ second splits, 0.5,1.0, and 1.5 seconds off of the fastest time, respectively. 4D division being a full one second split, o.5, 1.o, 2.o seconds off fastest time. Money or awards will be given in each division.

General Barrel Racing Rules: Accepted NBHA barrel racing practices will govern. A “no time” will be given to the contestant if they break the clover-leaf pattern or knock over a barrel. A run with penalties will be treated as a “no time.” Contestants should be ready to compete when their name is called. If a contestant is not present when their name is called, they will receive two additional gate calls and will then receive a “no time.” If a contestant is present, but fails to start the clock within 60 seconds of their first gate call, they will receive a “no time.” Electronic timers shall be used In the event of a timer failure; the contestant will be given a re- run at the end of the draw.

Inhumane, cruel or abusive treatment of a horse at this event will not be tolerated. This will include, but is not limited to, excessive use of a bat, crop, whip, or rope in front of the cinch, use of an electric prod, or use of unacceptable drugs. Any attempt to fix or throw a barrel race will not be tolerated. Any harassment or argumentativeness with a show official may be warrant for disqualification. Any misconduct, including but not limited to those items listed above, shall be brought to the attention of the Routt County Advisory Board for consideration and appropriate action. Appropriate action may include removal from the Routt County fairgrounds, fines, loss of awards/money or expulsion.

Youth Class Open Barrel race: The entry fee for the Youth class is $20 and a minimum of 80% put in the purse. There is a onetime $5 office charge. The Youth class is open to all persons 8-18 years as of Jan. 1st, 2016. The Youth class will be run with a 3-D format with 1 second splits/ with same rules as the open barrel race previous same rules apply to the Youth division. NO EXHIBITIONS. Pre-entries are encouraged to be turned in to the Fair Office (inside the Exhibit Hall at the Fairground) by Friday, August 19th by 6pm. Late entries will be taken on Saturday August 20th morning but will be given a late charge fee of $10 per entry and will be taken only up to 9am.

Pee Wee Class Barrel Race: The entry fee for the PeeWee Class is $10 The PeeWee class is open to all persons under 8 years old as of Jan. 1st, 2016. Pre-entries are encouraged to be turned in to the Fair Office (inside the Exhibit Hall at the Fairground) by Friday, August 19th by 6pm. Late entries will be taken on Saturday August 20th morning but will be given a late charge fee of $10 per entry and will be taken only up to 9am. Prizes will be given to the Pee Wee Class.
